The Australian Terrier evolved from a variety of British terriers specifically bred for Australian conditions, this tough little terrier was used for everything from guarding the farms and mines to hunting, and from tending the sheep to killing rats and snakes. The were introduced to Britain in 1903 and gained Kennel Club recognition in the 1930s.

This breed is affectionately known as the "Aussie" by Australians and is a very desirable companion dog in his own right. With that easy self-confidence comes his readiness to enjoy a good friendship.

Australian Terriers come in solid red, sand-coloured with tan markings or silvery blue with tan markings. They shed little to no hair and should be brushed regularly to distribute the natural oils in their coats. This breed is non-shedding.

The Australian Terrier is a healthy breed that can live to about 15 years or more years. They are well suited for city or country life, Australian Terriers are active indoors and can get enough exercise living in an flat provided this is complimented with walks. They are prone to chasing and therefore should not be allowed to roam free.
